Back in 2001 Absolut Vodka had a site that allowed you to make a movie using clips from an old Japanese Sci-Fi, and add your own computer generated voices. I put this together to tell the story of the Seti@Home program making alien contact.

  • @mike649fox Darn. You beat me to it.

  • fancy sending signals to outta space.. are we not advertising a FREE DINNER to who or what is out there?? how stupid !!

  • Where's Ultraman when you need him?!?

  • Great point, but, here is another view. Animals are less advanced than we are but we don't exactly destroy them. But if it's the same species we see them as adaptable to our society, therefore we influence them.

  • I say they wouldn't. There would have been plenty of time to do so. No need to be cautious. If some visitors would come to us, they'd already know everything about us. Information is radioed into space since more than 100 years.

  • Who says they wouldn't? Point is, we really don't know one way or the other. Maybe it's wishful thinking to believe that all advanced cultures would automatically be benign. I'm just saying extreme caution would be prudent in a first contact situation.

  • I'd say that's kind of a human-centric view though. Less advanced cultures may be destroyed because humans are destructive. But who says an ET would want to destroy us?

  • On our own planet, we have a pretty dismal history as it relates to advanced cultures interacting with less advanced ones. Invariably, the less advanced one is radically altered or destroyed. Are we really ready for contact?
