  • I didn't know zoos sell their animals to people. That's cool! I want a bushbaby!

  • @TimmyGal They don't normally, but we work in the zoo, and because his father was bullying him, he had to be taken out of the enclosure he was in.

Rather than him being kept on his own out of sight of the public, we took him in instead to give him a better life.

  • Unfortunately the treeshrew is now dead. He was diabetic and it finally proved too much for him.

He will be missed, he was a right character.

To address dientze's comment - the damage to the tail was done by his Dad at the Zoo before we took him in. We had him at home for many years without an issue.

  • The poor animal is stressed out, just look at its tail. The hair are standing on end. No good sign.

Additionally the fur isn´t clean and smooth.

No wonder the treeshrew is rude.

  • The Treeshrew is not stressed out. To make that comment from a 50 second video like that is being very presumtuous.

The reason he has not got a full tail, and why his fur is not what it should be, is because he was being bullied by his dad at the zoo he was being kept at (had his tail bitten off and his fur pulled out). We took him in, and he is far from stressed these days.

  • thumbs up if he reminds you of Scrat

  • He was masturbating.

  • @treeshrew3 Ahh, so cute. What was his name? What zoo did you take him in from?

  • @treeshrew3

btw I am quite sure that not the father bit of the tail and pulled out the hair, but the son did it himself. It is a typical behavior for tree shrews to mutilate themselves when being in a situation they cannot cope with.

Is the tail still open at the end or has it healed?

It is possible it will gnaw off the tail slowly, when feeling bad, just to prepare you.

I am working with tree shrews for 15 years now, so believe me, I have some experience. This animal looks stressed. You say yourself it was stressed before.

You can measure the actual stress a tree shrew has by watching his tail. Are teh hair smooth the animal is not stressed. Are the hair standing on end, the animal is stressed. I believe you you treat him well and I am sure you are doing your best, but this animal is quite lets say arroused in this video.
