@douglasgyi keeping the ball square means that at address, your club face is facing towards your target. opening the club face just means that you are increasing the angle and the loft of the shot. you can open the club face and still stay square to the shot

how do you open the club face and still keep it square to the target ? open the club face means, it is not square to the target - it is aiming to the right.

This method is used in order to get the ball to stop faster in order to keep from rolling past the hole. :)
