Dave Gardner known as Brother Dave Gardner was a comedian and actor and landed a top-20 hit with this in 1957. He also did the "MAD WITCH" best known by most rockabillies, on OJ (Old Judge). This here was released a few months before Eddie Bond recorded "Hershey Bar" on Mercury (1957).

  • God Bless Him. I was lucky enough to have met Brother Dave, as an early comedian, at a dive bar - comedy club where I worked in HOUSTON, TEXAS, on Broad St. and Telephone, a few years before his death.

  • Bro. Dave was a helluva drummer and singer...in addition to comedy.

  • The bizarre combination of coronet and organ is pure suthern.

  • Brother Dave Gardner hailed from Jackson, Tenn., and he had six comedy albums hit the charts in the early 1960s. This song was also recorded by Don Rondo and by the Owen Bradley Quintet in 1957, and the Bill Black Combo did an instrumental version of the song in 1960.
