  • One smart guy. I love the bit in the book he wrote with Mark Olshaker, Mindhunter, that he told David Berkowitz to "cut the crap" about the 2000-year-old dog. Berkowitz then laughed, and told him, "alright, you got me."

  • @GanBoi91 I wasn't implying that profiling was not a genuine profession. I believe John is the best at what he does. But isn't criminal profiling a general assesment of a criminal's mind; personality, motives, passions, ego, etc.? and not an arbitrary prediction of his preference in a specific car brand or color? Hard to believe the manner in which Karla was raped/murdered (in her home) could have suggested the killer's choice in motor vehicle. Also its a fact; the FBI have used psychics before.

  • Journey Into Darkness taught me many things to look for when in public and how not to become a victim. Thank You John.....For Everything You've Done and all your hard work and dedication to getting these guy's off the streets. Happy to hear you say say that giving children loving nurturing environments is a deterrent to creating killers in the fisrt place. I agree!

  • @SHARKREEF2011 I own that one too LoL, as well as his book on BTK.

    Read em all!

  • @GanBoi91 AND read his book anatomy of motive and obsession.usable in regular life situations.

  • @truesightmike Read his book, Mindhunter, it will explain a few of the processes he uses to draw these conclusions. I assure you he is not a Psychic, and any person that claims to be a psychic is feeding others bullshit. Psychics use a mix of tricks known as cold reading and subtle interviews that allow them to get the clues to the answers they need.

Profiling is a science, not magic or trickery, it comes from decades of research into the minds of criminals.

  • When I seen the A&E special on the 1978 Karla Brown case, I've always thought John Douglas was a psychic profiler. He said the killer drove a red volkswagon and would be able to pass a lie detector -both turned out to be true. I find it impossible to scientifically draw those conclusions based on the crime scene alone, and he never did elaborate on his uncanny predictions. Its no secret the FBI does use psychics from time to time, and I believe he is one of them.

  • @thekenniewitch forgot to mention that it may trigger excitement, or anxiety, depending on their perception of the color.

  • @thekenniewitch "Cold" like the color of the skin of the victims. "Warm" , they like to see their victims suffer: bruises, blood, RED. Colors play a significant role in behaviourism, thats why psychologists dont use vivid colors in their office.

  • I have compiled some statistics on my own which are interesting. Killers often choose colors from the "cold" ends of the color spectrum while rapists seem to prefer the "warm" colors, such as red, orange, etc. I have noticed, that guys who pick up street hookers, also seem to fall into thiese categories. I wondered if this were to be studied on a professional basis, if it could be useful in criminal profiling.
