Transcription/Transcripión: Hola. Mi nombre es David. Tengo 16 años. Estoy estudiando mi segundo año en la carrera de recursos naturales. Es una—un proyecto que tiene Mateo y Volunteer Peten que son voluntarios quien vienen de otros países a ayudarnos con nuestros estudios. Y como enseñarnos otras lenguas... enseñarnos otras lenguas, y de eso, de eso actualmente yo me propuesto a aprender francés, ingles, y trato de aprender mucho mas porque quisiera, quisiera viajar a muchos lugares... aunque tengo lugares especiales como... hay bonitos lugares en Europa, y es un continente muy bello. Aunque también si aunque estoy rodeado... San Andrés es un... es cualquier... es muy bello también. Pero entre más conozco seria mucho mejor.

Y sí, lo que ahorita lo que me preocupa del día es el cambio climático ya que ya de hace mucho tiempo que está [?] este problema y no lo tomamos en serio. Espero que ahora sí. Yo por eso me interesé un poco en la carrera ya que vivimos en San Andrés. Es un país—es un municipio—muy hermoso pero lamentablemente nuestras... nuestro... nuestra rutina lo está destruyendo con tanta basura, contaminación. Y soy de las pocas personas que se interesan en, en estudiar este problema. Me intereso la carrera, y por eso estoy allí, y trato de hacerlo mejor posible que puedo. Tengo una beca que me paga mis estudios y así con eso se ayuda mi familia ya que ya mi carrera la estoy ganando yo porque tengo cuatro—tres—hermanas y un hermano que está pequeño y es una gran ayuda y espero seguir estudiando en lo que pueda y viajar mucho.

Al fin de semana estoy... estudio... estoy aprendiendo ajedrez, música, pintura, computación. Y este sábado pasado viajé a la ciudad de Flores. Un torneo que se avisó allí. Me fue muy bien. De 5 juegos, gané 4. Quedé en 4 lugar. Y el grupo sí hizo muy bien también. Aunque yo quedé en 4 lugar y otros [?]. Estoy estudiando música. (Donde?) En Escuelas Abiertas, un proyecto que se acaba, empezó a realizar hace, hace poco, hace poco solo normalmente lo que hacía al fin de semana era solo leer, leer o mirar televisión, estudiar un poco. Pero ahora con eso proyecto estoy aprendiendo ajedrez, ya que me interesa bastante... pintura, música, computación. (Que tipo de música?) Pop. (Y Ricardo Arjona, sí?) Sí, mi cantante favorito Ricardo Arjona ya que es, es Guatemalteco, es Guatemalteco y, y me gusta su música ya que me gusta la música ya de artistas extranjeros pero prefiero lo que es de Guatemala ya que con eso ayudo a ella misma. (Y te gusta ir a la biblioteca?) Sí normalmente voy de lunes a viernes a la biblioteca, de 4 a 6 o de 7 a 9. En este periodo de tiempo puedo leer libros, estudiar, hacer tareas, aprender ingles, francés... y si algún día viene una voluntaria que sepa otra idioma, trataré a aprender.

Summary in English/ Resumen en Ingles: Hi, my name is David. I’m 16 years old. I’m in my second year at the (high) School of Natural Resources. That’s Mateo and Volunteer Peten’s Project. They are volunteers who come from other countries to help us with our studies. And they teach us other languages.

I’m actually set on learning French and English, and I try to learn a lot more because I’d like to go to a lot of places. There are a lot of special places… a lot of beautiful places in Europe—it’s a beautiful continent. San Andres is also beautiful. But it’d be great to know a lot more.

Something I worry about these days is climate change. People have known about it for a long time, but we didn’t take it seriously. I hope that now we will. For that reason I got interested in the [natural resources] school track. San Andres is a very pretty municipality, and it’s a pity that our lifestyle is destroying it with so much trash and contamination.

I’m among the few people who is interested in studying the problem. I’m interested in this field, and that’s why I’m here, trying to do my best. I have a scholarship that pays for my studies, and with that I help my family. I’m earning this degree because I have three sisters and a little brother, and it’s a great help. I hope to continue studying to the best of my abilities, and travel a lot.

On the weekends I study chess, music, painting, and computers. And last Saturday I went to the city of Flores for a chess tournament. I did really well. Out of 5 games, I won 4. I placed 4th in the whole competition.

The group did well, too… I study music. (Where?) At “Open Schools,” which is a really new [public] project. Usually on the weekends I just read or watched television, and studied a little. But now with this project I study chess, which really interests me… painting, music, computers. (What kind of music?) Pop. (And Ricardo Arjona, right?) Yes, Ricardo Arjona is my favorite singer. He’s Guatemalan, and I like his music.

I like music by foreign artists, but I prefer that which is from Guatemala because it’s a way of supporting the country. (And do you like to come to the library?) Yes, usually I go Monday through Friday, from 4 to 6pm or 7 to 8pm. During those times I can read books, study, do homework, learn English, French… And if one day there arrives a volunteer who knows some other language, I’ll try to learn that, too.
