Obama Campaign Hosts First Fridays
Open House to Build the Youth Movement in Northern California

OAKLAND, CA - The Barack Obama campaign's Northern California Headquarters is launching its monthly "First Fridays" Youth Open House on November 2nd. The two hour event starts at 6:00 PM and will be held at the headquarters, 436 14th Street, Suite 305 in Oakland.

First Fridays will be held the first Friday of each month through February 2008 to give high school and college students the opportunity to build the Obama campaign's grassroots youth movement, engage students, and turn out the youth vote.

Obama's campaign is getting a big boost from young voters. "Through its message of hope and change and through grassroots organizing efforts, Obama is galvanizing young people ages 18-24, a population that historically does not vote in high numbers," said Julie Lythcott-Haims, Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Dean of Freshmen at Stanford University. "Unlike other presidential campaigns, the Obama campaign believes that young voters are an important part of our winning coalition," said Stephanie Chan, California Communications Director for Students for Obama, and UC Berkeley student. "We're organizing young people to become leaders in this campaign, not just volunteers."

Participants include students from
UC Berkeley,
UC Santa Cruz,
Stanford University,
Mills College,
Laney College,
and high school students from throughout the Bay Area.

Northern California Campaign Director Erin Callahan, and California Political Director for African American Outreach Robert Coles will also join the discussion.

  • income redistibution is not a value but a policiy. That's one of the failures of the whole conservative values talk is that they don't seem to know the difference between values and policies.

  • Fucking sad. Brain washing kids.

  • Same old failed conservative values of name calling and demeaning behavior. It just illustrates how conservative values have failed.

  • I believe an Austrian painter named Adolf Schickelgrueber came up with the idea of a political youth movement back in the 1930's. Anyone remember the rest of the story?
