@wafflegal101 hence, life is not ideal, and life is unfair; you can either have your cake and eat it, not both
-
@MrJonesstones i think it's to add some shock to the movie. also, i think that the guy who died represents something, like the "truth" or how things should be ideally for people (people should have their cake and eat it too). unfortunately, reality kicks in when he gets run over by a car, and that all goes out the window

"Reality is a deadly place....I hope this trip is a good one"

@22centman36 Yeah, I agree, I don't think they meant to make a "bad" film and the actors in this one (Strasberg and Nicholson) are certainly respectable, but they had to go put a lot of anti-drug messages and other scary stuff in there. Heaven forbid they make the hippie life look too attractive so more kids would run away from Iowa or wherever to go be hippies. I understand when "Easy Rider" was made, which was much more of a true counterculture film, people hated it as having no plot, etc.

@kmfiske13 Her deafness was psychosomatic, brought on by her mother abusively throwing her prized possessions in the fire. When she sees her brother burning up in a fire at the same time the drugs start hitting her, she gets her hearing back. That's the interpretation I've read anyway.

Wow, Steve in a long white robe standing in front of woodwork that looks like a cross. Can we get any more obvious with the imagery here? LOL

@TheGB1950 i wont say the film is bad, I will say it was a product of the time and a product of hollywood producers trying to understandt he hippy movement., They didnt understand it so they tried to produce something that owuld make money anyway. they;ll make moveis about the occupy movement one day.

@22centman36 Ya, and half of these actors probably had to get stoned to finish the film, It was so bad, LOL
-
@cutis1000 Man is that ever true.LOL I never laughed so hard. It's a great "spoof "flick now. I think I'll take a long "Trip" after seeing this film, LOL

Reality's a Rotten Place to Be :0 QC
Thank you for posting this entire film. It's a despicable hollywood hippie exploitation film, dramatizing the effects of drug use on a generation. But for a piece of psychedelic cinema, and a snapshot of the times, it's well worth it.
