Street renovation in Malmö - Continuing the demolition

We live in Malmö (Sweden). Our street was demolished and redone.
See how the bulldozer removes all the stones, as if they were some kind of lego bricks :)

That looks like the most odd way to take up tarmac. In England, they use machines which scrape the surface, and break up the old tarmac bits. Using a digger seems a bit odd.

Actually that part of the road is not tarmac, but made of cobbles.

I suppose they wanted to keep them for another use, and I guess that digger is the less destructive and yet effective way of doing it?

Sorry I really don't know ... I can only tell you it was rather quick, and noisy (screetching noises that brought a whole lot of animation to the street)
