I don't mean to sound rude, but other than the inherent safety risk of using actual steel, surely you couldn't have larger scale battles like the SCA because of the nature of your weapons? As SCA uses a more realistic modern day alternative they can imitate siege weapons, archery and large group skirmishes.

kendo is a different thing kendo is kendo it was bamboo from the beggining and u wear medieval armor pieces and hit urself with rattan and i just love reading about recreating history but half or even more of american sca dont have anything to do with history thats fantasy larp or pure entertainment i dont mind people havin fun but dont call it recreating histry or stuff like that lets say thats heavy fighting for U

These replies are not ment in any way to be an attack on you Samson82UK. It just seems that every SCA video I watch there is some person that says this isn't real/check out these videos for the "real thing"/or my personal favorite you guys look like idiots.

The fact of the matter is that we all enjoy the same hobbies, we just do things slightly different. They use steel, we use rattan.

Another note, nobody ever complains about kendo using bamboo so what is the difference.

It is actually very much like your videos other then the fact that we use rattan instead of live steel to cut down on any possible mishaps.

The rattan "weapon" is actuallu close to what the actual weight of the weapon that it portrays is in real life. We try to keep everything very authentic while still maintaing a sense of enjoyment.

The reason why they call this heavy is because it is a full contact sport. Yes the clothes can be heavy sometimes as we do wear period armor for most of our stuff.

Some consider this a hobby while others consider it a sport. I personally consider it both. That means that I try to wear the lighest armor I possibly can while still looking authentic.

This is very fun to do and does actually take a lot of skill even though a lot of people say that it looks like they are flailing around.
