Principal Financial hears from its employees that Leader conducted teaching creates the best learning environment and that every participant wants to hear from the top executives. To entice top talent to participate in a program, the company advertises it as an opportunity to hear from and interact with senior leaders. This approach always fills the seats.
To implement a new curriculum for top talent, they asked the top 25-30 leaders to participate by providing their insight on leadership, competition and globalization. One hundred percent of those asked agreed to participate. In 2006, leaders in the company filled all classroom opportunities totaling 80 in all. In 2007, they will easily surpass 100 opportunities.
The Business Leadership Program at Principal Financial, in partnership with Drake University, combines the theory of academic faculty and application of real world practice from the executives, including the President and CEO. The in-depth dialogue and questions that occur during these sessions benefit the executives just as much as the participants.
