Due to a medical mistake, my mother, Catherine Grasse, went blind at 88. No longer able to paint, she fell back on her piano playing as a creative outlet. Tragic as the blindness was, it forced her to improvise rather than use sheet music when playing the keyboard. I filmed several of these sessions in the days following her 90th birthday. She remarked before sitting down to play this one how she wanted to capture a "religious or spiritual feel," and the influence of traditional hymns is apparent in the chord changes. (I fantasize hearing this one arranged with strings, Vaughan Williams-style.)
