A presentation by John Westerdahl, Ph.D..

Learn about the anti-aging, healing, and preventive properties of key plant foods. Learn about the power foods you should include in your diet everyday. Learn about how a plant-based, ideally vegan diet, can effectively prevent, treat, and even reverse serious health problems. Learn why Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine said, "Let food be your medicine, and medicine be your food." Lifestyle Medicine, which incorporates a diet based on plant foods, is the key to the medicine of the future.

  • Eat Brown rice? Brown rice contains lectins. Has high levels of phytic acids. The phytic acids bind to minerals in the body and can cause deficiencys. Brown rice can irritate the small intestine, and lead to leaky guy syndrome.

  • @dudeslove Yes brown rice along with many other whole grains and legumes contains lectins and phytic acid, but the story is not so simple as it is either good or bad. For example see the Wikipedia article on "Phytic acid" it contains this: "Researchers now believe phytic acid, found in the fiber of legumes and grains, is the major ingredient responsible for preventing colon cancer and other cancers.[1][23]"

  • @vshvideo Wow. Brown rice could be good. Do you still think grains such as those found in bread should be avoided due to the effects agriculture have had on them?

  • @dudeslove Agriculture has dramatically changed almost everything we eat, fruits, grains, vegetables, and farmed animals. Unless you are allergic to or don't like grains, whole grains have a lot of good things in them. There are many studies showing eating more whole grains can improve health. Whole foods are better than processed foods (flour, cakes, etc). If you are still worried, eating grains isn't a requirement for a healthy diet, there are lots of other healthy foods.

  • @damieneatsrice I think its pretty clear that cats and dogs are natural carnivores. But dogs also seem to thrive on a vegan diet if it includes all the nutrients they need.

  • @vshvideo dont think dogs and cats are meant to be vegan because of their jaw structure which is "up down" as opposed to the human or other herbivore ones that is more "rotational" (while chewing that is).

  • @karenl1234 Vegan Dogs are not too difficult, although you have to use a vegan dog food that includes some added nutrients that dogs need. Vegan Cats are much more difficult and require a lot of care to make sure they get all the nutrients they need.

  • what about my dogs and cats they refuse to be vegan but like raw diet of meat, meat and more meat! is it unreasonable for dogs n cats 2b vegan? thanks!

  • Very interesting. Thank you!
