Arthur Smith, Jimmy Wakely - Yodeling Ranger (1948)

This clip is from the 1948 Jimmy Wakely western The Rangers Ride. Arthur is playing in the band but unfortunately the soundtrack is not Artur's fiddling.

It is most likely the brilliant lefty swing fiddler Tex Achison who played the fiddle both in Wakely westerns and others of the era.

This is a shame for it would have been wonderful to hear
Arthur's notes as he clearly is got something going on his box.

Very enjoyable .. nostalgia is legitimate & is there to be enjoyed by enthusiasts of whatever genre of music is the subject of the clip .. and this clip is fine & dandy.

Wakely's films were filmed at the Monogram movie ranch in Newhall, Ca. At one time Monogram had merged with Republic Pictures to make westerns. In 1935, Gene Autry made his first feature film, "Tumbling Tumblweeds, at this location. In 1952, Autry bought the property from the defunct Monogram Studios andcrenamed Melody Ranch (after his radio program), Although Wakely called Gene Autry his mentor, he took offense at being labeled a Autry imitator. A look at his films prove his critics were right

The music was seldom recorded live on the sound stage. It was nearly always recorded in the studio and edited into the film where it was needed. The concertina here sounds like a piano accordian, too.

How come Arthur's playing was replaced?

Sounds like a lotta extra trouble and expense.
