Hail, Shadownor! Aye, I be a native born Californian! Loved your post....ol' Long John Silver couldn't have put it better! I agree with you about Catalina, though I've never been there meself. Have been back East for visits....the DC Metro area & Northern Virginny. A world of history back there, me bucko! Appreciate your kind words, me hearty! May you always sail smooth seas, matey! :)
@JubalCalif, Avast ye that lubber. Come to quarters; tighten the sheets to windward and soften to lee. From where doest thou hail? California? Wanton gold aye, yet shallow ports, skills and fare. Once thou hast sailed Catalina, the challenge and adventure there be gone. Come back east and explore the eternal treasure and depth of a whole coast of treasure both seen and hidden..
Arrr & shiver me timbers! This rootin tootin version of me favorite sea chanty almost make me drop a tear in me grog! Can't help gettin' those "happy feet"....wanna do a tap dance while I "walk the plank"! It's tunes like this that make me glad I became a pirate...though havin a parrot on me shoulder is murder on me dry cleanin bills...and with this peg leg, I always come in last in those butt kickin contests! I THANK ye for sharing this delightful ditty with us! :)
The Robert Shaw Chorale sings this, as well as Shenandoah and Battle Hymn of the Republic. I'm sure they sing other songs, but those two were the only songs I could locate quickly.
I have heard this song many times from many different singers, and this version is by far my most favorite!! The men's choir that sings it is unbelievable. I thought I had lost the link to it, but luckily found it under this other name.
