It was on one of my travels to Brazil that I first met the goddess of the Sea. Her name is Iemanja. When we met, it was in Rio de Janeiro, one new-years eve. On the last day of the year everybody dresses in white while carrying their offerings to the sea. Flowers, perfume, talcum powder are set into little boats and cast adrift into the sea. All this is done to appease the goddess and to beseech favors for the year to come as well as to thank her for the ones already granted.
