Professor Germaine Greer delivered this year's Winifred Mercier public lecture to a packed Gandhi Hall on Tuesday evening.

Born in Melbourne and educated in Australia and at Cambridge University, Professor Greer's first book, The Female Eunuch (1969), took the world by storm and remains one of the most influential texts of the feminist movement.

She has had a distinguished academic career in Britain and the USA and makes regular appearances in print and other media as a broadcaster, journalist, columnist and reviewer.

Since 1988, Germaine has been Director (and financier) of Stump Cross Books, a publishing house specialising in lesser-known works by early women writers.

The lecture will shortly be available to view online.

  • @cgphotographics Not according to Germaine Greer it isn't. According to her disgusting feminazi mind, equality is not enough.

  • @shiyboy4

Feminism is equality between men and women. no more, no less.

  • @konnen95 Not necessarily. Anyhow, they are paid equally. At least here in Australia.

  • Feminism is wrong it is hypocritical and contradictory, Femminists only try to prove themselves as superior to men.

equalism is the only way, equal regardless of race gender or religion. that all men are created equal.

and the reason we refer to it as man kind is because that is what it is

man woMAN woMEN a woman is the same as a man except with a womb hence why the wo goes infront of man,

    this is mankind.

so stop trying to be "politicaly correct" polotics r always incorrect

  • This woman can free men but it also requires men to be more than they are now.

  • I feel sorry for anybody unfortunate to upset Miss Greer. She reminds me so much of my mother. You have to watch every word you say and if an eyebrow gets raised,or even worse she looks at you over the top of her glasses, you know you`re in trouble.

  • I like her, but a lot of what she says is just speculative guesswork; it's purely because primary school teachers don't need to know as much as secondary school teachers and then university lecturers need to be more qualified than secondary school teachers. It's sort of like talking about company management; I think the real observation is that women tend to go for primary school jobs not because they are intellectual inferior, but because of materal instinct.

  • I like Germaine Greer, but I just don't agree with her on this "women shouldn't be hairless" thing. Men shave too. I know plenty of men who shave all their body hair off. My chest is pretty much a rug and I find it pretty repulsive and know plenty of women who aren't too fond of it. I don't shave merely because I can't be arsed, but body hair just isn't attractive, for either gender, and it's being gradually phased out by evolution....So why not shave it off?

  • fairly sure that primary/elementary teacher s are paid less because they don't need to do as much work. Not because its female dominated

  • @noonej Just becasue *you* can doesn't mean that others can.
