"It is with great joy and emotion that I inform I have recently become father to a baby boy," the 25-year-old soccer superstar posted on his page, prompting more than 40,000 of his 6.5 million Facebook fans to hit the "Like" button on his announcement.

While the identity of the baby's mother was not revealed, Ronaldo - who has been linked over the years to the likes of Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian -- said he will be raising his son on his own.

"As agreed with the baby's mother, who prefers to have her identity kept confidential, my son will be under my exclusive guardianship," he continued. "No further information will be provided on this subject and I request everyone to fully respe...ct my right to privacy (and that of the child) at least on issues as personal as these are."
