those are all plastic rubbish boxes (except the original ford GT, that i like), by your logic, the only criteria for a car being good is how fast it goes around the nurburgring, not refinement, quality, comfort or handling, and in these areas the cars you listed are all miles behind anything from Europe.

Does he know that they rate the cars hp as how much the engine itself makes? Unless however, they put it at 500whp, which is what it would put down to the wheels. The new gt500 rated at 650 hp but probably only like 550-580 to the wheels due to the power transfer through the transmission and the rear axle.

American muscle cars are powerful cars for the average guy to afford. Lower on interior refinements and such, but powerful on the powertrain

European Saloon/Sedans/roadsters are very refined, (low-no tire on road noise, nicer interiors, better ride support, more subtle power braking application, etc)

I'm waiting for the Chrysler/Fiat engineers to figure out that a heavy 10 cyl viper engine belongs over the REAR axle. That might eat a ferrari...

I agree and disagree. I agree with you that some American supercars aren't even close to refinement as their Europeans counterparts. For example on Top Gear they had the Camaro SS versus the E63 AMG. The Camaro is just outclassed by the Mercedes. But I disagree in saying that there are American cars that can keep up and even beat their European counterparts. For example the CTS-V and the BMW E60* M5. You cant deny that.

Manufacturer's HP numbers are measured at the crank, the wheel HP is always less

i understand all that, but what irritates me is when people compare them to supercars, they're completely different types of cars. i have never liked muscle cars and i don't see why they appeal to other people, but i am prepared to let them be once people stop saying "they can do everything a Ferrari does for cheaper" because they clearly can't.

I got passed by one here in Scotland a while ago. I've always loved the look of those machines. Too bad I don't have the cash to buy one. It's also too bad that the guy driving it was a bit of a showoff and kept revving like crazy at the lights.

I don't know why Ford USA didn't do what GM did; let their Australian division design their floorpan. The modern Camaro was completely developed in Australia. The Australian For Falcon has independent suspension all round, proper ABS brakes, and when you flick the wheel in any direction, it will respond. I know muscle cars aren't meant to do this, but Australian muscle cars let you have fun, but don't take half an hour to get out of a corner.
