In Japanese daily conversation,
"鬼" means hard . For example, "鬼教師" means hard teacher.
But Original Meaning of "鬼" is a evil creature in Japanese folklore.
"畜" is an abbreviation of "畜生". It means "shit!" or "fuck!".
But Original Meaning of "畜生” is a animal.
In the case "鬼畜", "鬼" and "畜" are used in Original Meaning.
Therefore, "鬼畜" means "like a evil creature and like a animal(= inhuman)",
So "鬼畜王" means a cruel and inhuman king.
But Rance is more gentlemanly than this name.XD

This comes from Buddhism actually.
In Buddhism system, there are six results after a human passed, 3 are good and 3 are bad. Two of them are"鬼" and “畜”.
So '鬼畜' means a very evil man that only can fell into the hell(actually in Buddhism system hell is another result of bad, just easier for you understanding), but yes, Chinese doesn't use it this way.

the pharse 鬼畜 is created by japanese , that's why it's not in any chinese-english dictionary
-
Makes sense. My main problem is that the site where I'm learning Chinese from doesn't have that phrase in their dictionary, and I couldn't find it in a chinese-english dictionary either. I can easily see how things could be that way though since two characters in Chinese can often combine to make totally different words. I noticed the Alicesoft wiki mentioned that the game is sometimes called Ghost King Rance regardless of the illegitimacy of that rendering, though.
-
while the word 鬼 means ghost or devil in chinese .
however when the two words 鬼and畜 put together , it has totally different meaning
-
In Chinese it can also be translated as Ghost King Rance.
Personally I think it was intended as Brutal King Rance.
