By purchasing its currently leased distribution center, the West Ohio Food Bank will be able to provide a stable food delivery system to more than 170 pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters that depend on it to serve thousands of people every week.
Hunger is a major problem caused by the current economic situation. Demand for hunger relief services has increase by more than 40 percent in the last year.
With more people needing help, the the hunger relief system must expand to meet that need. But, the acquisition, storage, and distribution of food to more than 170 member charities throughout its 11 county service area is a complex operation, especially when it involves perishable fresh food that must be refrigerated or frozen.
