Season 3 Episode 18 Part 1

Hosted by Leonard Nimoy and broadcast weekly from 1976 to 1982, In Search Of... is the greatest mystery documentary show ever. I grew up watching this show, enjoying the spine-tingling presentation of quasi-fact and dramatic synthesizer-heavy music of Rinder and Lewis.

I am not selling this material, neither am I interested in buying bootlegs. It is currently commercially unavailable, so I am joining with others to make evaluation of this excellent series possible.

I'm posting these videos to fill some gaps left by recently suspended users (from whom I downloaded these). Check my subscriptions to find users with more episodes, and drop me a note if you have posted any "new" ones. Thanks for watching!

ABOUT THIS EPISODE:
It's interesting to me that this episode doesn't mention Mengele's fascination with identical twins or exact details of the monstrosities he committed. While the Wikipedia article does go into a bit of detail about this, it seems to all but ignore Simon Wiesenthal's worthy vigil; thankfully this In Search Of... episode does.

Also, Mengele reportedly died within a week of this episode's original air date (Feb 1, 1979)...
From Wikipedia:
"Mengele, whose health had been deteriorating for years, died on February 7, 1979, in Bertioga, Brazil, where he accidentally drowned or possibly suffered a stroke while swimming in the sea."

  • He gave children extra food and even chocolate, he developed himself as a paternal figure for trust. It's unimaginably sickening as he portrayed himself as a good man and doctor to the victims and then completely abused and destroyed. I suppose though that was what most of the Nazis did though. I really cannot get my head around this at all.

  • @WizardOfChicamunga Your heart is in the right place, Wiz, but you miss the point of "freedom" as it applies here. A racist wants to take away the freedom & even the right to life of other human beings. I don't mind if you disagree with my philosophy and I'm certainly not into murdering anyone over it (many racists surely are). You can say whatever you want as long as it's not racist hate mongering/flaming/troll action. Read the comments and you will find Nazi sympathizers who have behaved...

  • I got here through the film marathon man because josef mengele is who the character szell is based upon. in the film someone also refers to szell as "der weiße Engel"

  • @shamantrainer first off bad analogy! second off I and many many many people do not use products tested on animals.

  • @karmalevel nah, im not. Are you a woman? Wear makeup? Well, if so i have some very bad news about what kind of torture countless, COUNTLESS, literally millions of animals had to go through so your cheeks and lips are slightly a different color for a few hours. you know nothing but a non existent sentiment of a moral code forced on you, that you yourself do not even adhere to, but will judge others for. A joke if i ever heard one.

  • @shamantrainer you are sick beyond belief

  • I LOATHE this creature!!!

  • @stefaniabergsdottir Do i care to? No. Should you search this information out yourself? Absolutely. I laugh if you think hes the only Dr. who's experiments were viewed as unethical. We still have them here in England and in the US, amongst other places.

  • @shamantrainer you disgust me. He mutilated and tortured hundreds of children, he preformed vivisection's on pregnant women.. He was a monster of the worst kind.

Nothing is worth such horrible acts.

And do you care to explain exactly which research of his is still used in medicine today?

  • A true man of science. A hero whos research is still used in medicine in our time. His name shall be forever associated with the greatest honor.

  • Forever die and die and die again pathetic Mengele!!!

  • Long live Mengele!!!
