  • The Boston Herald acknowledges that it has overstated the Red Sox's interest in free agent utilityman Willie Bloomquist.

The paper had been suggesting that Bloomquist could take over as the club's fourth outfielder, but a team official shot that down. The Red Sox, like most, probably view Bloomquist as 25th-man material. There remains ample speculation that the team is pursuing Rocco Baldelli as a fourth outfielder.
