@rastclart the 6 cylinder engine is the exact same as the 4 cyl, with just 2 more added. do the math, 2.0 vs 3.0, 2.2 vs 3.3, and the 2.5 vs 3.6L engines. so long as the engine is built by subaru, it counts.

I'm glad its not just me that thinks it sounds like a 6, I live near prodrive, so Imprezas were ten a penny around my way, and I like to think that I'm fully aware of what a flat 4 sounds like, I've also seen my fair share of drag spec imprezas, and none of them sounded like that. I'm probably going to get some abuse from the trollers for saying that, but 4 cylinder engines, flat, inline, or any other configuration just don't have that multi-layered sound.

@TFritz82 Well in that case they need to change it to 200 hp per cyl... ;). Take away the UEL headers and you get rid of the amazing sound that Subaru originally designed and will sound more like this, or more so like the JDM ver 8 and newer STi's. Either way, its still Imprezive.

@adidas2284 I don't know, I thought it definitely didn't sound like a flat four engine. You have to question the credibility of the person who uploaded the video...do they physically work for the team that campaigns the car? Do they personally know the team and/or driver? I would take any video title/info with a grain of salt until I know otherwise. No big deal.

@rastclart Equal Length headers are the reason behind exhaust note unfortunately. Unless I'm trying to squeeze every ounce of HP out of my motor, or build a high HP application, I'll stick to the beautiful sound of the stock Unequal Length headers.

Yeah that's definitely an H6 engine, not any of the EJ engines...still bad ass if you ask me.
