On a low and outside pitch (or any pitch outside for that matter) you DONT want to catch the ball out in front of the plate. That would induce a weak grounder to your pull field. What you DO want to do is time your trigger and your swing so wherever the ball is in the zone (high, low, inside, outside) you can whip the bat through the zone and catch that fastball on the sweet spot. This works for any pitch really.
