I tell you what buddy. You are a true godsend. Thank you so much for taking the time to show us not so mechanically inclined people that we can do some things ourselves or at the least know what it is that we are getting charged for from our local mechanics so they don't treat us like chumps. Your a true gentlemen. From Sabstar in the land down under. Thnx

People ask me why a timing belt cost so much to change. This should answer why it so much to change. You make it look so easy, which it is..... If you have the right tools and, knowledge and the time to do it. Doing it myself took the better part of a day on my Jetta. I made the mistake of not changing the water pump and I wasted another part of the day 6 months later changing the water pump and the timing belt again.

U make evrything looks so easy. :)
Nice work
What was the stuff you used on the water pump to seal it?

@Richard25000 It's a sensor silicone based sealant. You don't have to use anything but I'm fussy :)

Wow! What a quality video! I thought it was ripped off from a bought one, and I am amazed it was not done by a professional video team. Almost every camera shot was very clear - and that is no easy task!
I would definitely buy videos like this if I had to. (Maybe $5 or so)
Found it just in time to do my Holden Vectra 2.2, which is pretty similar.
Thanks!

@diluvia Thanks for the nice comment. I've enjoyed hearing about people gaining the confidence to work on their own cars and saving some money. So that's enough payment for me :)
But of course the more people that watch all the videos and also cli ck on some adverts I end up earning a few cents. So that's better than nothing hey :)
Good luck with your Vectra!

Hi chrispix, thanks for this awsome video :) I have an Astra 1.6 (Z16XE) where im about to change the Timingbelt. And one questions came to my mind when watching your video:
@ 1:15 when lining up timing marks to TDC, will the marks on the crankshaft pulley always be in alignment if your camshaft spockets are aligned first? (or is there an individual alignment just for the crankshaft pulley)
hansjlachmann 11 months ago
@hansjlachmann Hey Mate, because the camshaft pulleys are attached to the crankshaft with the timing belt, all the marks will line up when you turn the crankshaft.
