Herman van Veen ran over a duck with his car. A couple of days later a guy called him and asked if he could write a fairytale for children. Herman saw a duck in his garden and he started thinking about the "widow" of the killed duck. The guy at the other end of the line asked what he was thinking about. When Herman answered he was thinking about a duck, the guy thought he was talking about the fairytale and said: Ok, so you're gonna write a fairytale about a duck.

this is actually spoken in german, but the entire video is 10 mins long, unless there is an easy way to upload subs on youtube, I'm not gonna do it
The performance of the tale was a big success. Profits went to UNICEF. It was performed in lots of countries.
The show was made into a record, with drawings by Annet Kossen. Then there was a book. Harald Siepermann made a comic book, a cartoon was made. Alfred became world famous.
Why? Maybe because he's so real. With everything he does he wonders: Why? And: Is it right?
He'll stay alive till there's nothing left to give.
THE END
