every live performance i look up for this song is the same. its a big joke...and i guess if i were at the live show and was drinking i would enjoy it but sitting here watching this i wish the crowd would shut up. it's my favorite song on the album and i hate that he is joking in every version i've found.

I like how when he tells the story behind it, it's told in a pretty comedic way, and then, there's the song which is the same story but told in a totally tragic way. Except, you know, maybe they're fucking around too much with the actual song...

I think so too! It would have been so much better if the story behind it was that he missed his chance at true love because he never did anything about his secret love until it was too late. The song is really sad and depressing but beautiful. I was actually a bit disapointed to hear the real story behind it! (the one in the pub!)
