some folks say that exposure to the epoxy and lacquers can cause health problems---but I would think using rubber gloves could be used on your hands and maybe a respirator over mouth and nose would help

Can eyes be removed and replaced with different one's? I have an 11' surf pole for a spinning reel.And wanted to put a conventional reel on it,but it has that large lower eye.That causes backlash.

yes, must be very carefull in taking old ones off, I use a sharp knife and carve off the wrapping epoxy, very slowly, your problem now mabe the reel seat which is put on before the guides, if you can use the existing one guides can be replaced, go slow, can't have any screwups now
