La damnation de Faust (English: The Damnation of Faust) is a work for orchestra, voices, and chorus written by Hector Berlioz (he called it a "légende dramatique").

Herbert von Karajan (5 April 1908 16 July 1989) was an Austrian orchestra and opera conductor, one of the most renowned 20th-century conductors. His obituary in The New York Times described him as "probably the world's best-known conductor and one of the most powerful figures in classical music."[1] Karajan conducted the Berlin Philharmonic for thirty-five years. He is the top-selling classical music recording artist of all time, with record sales estimated at 200 million.[2]

  • @Hotstepper sorry to inform you that Berlioz was french, and therefore it is "la marche hongroise" and not rackozi march. Just because it has your country's name in it doesn't mean that your title is the correct one.

  • nope hungarian march

  • @francaisetproud Berlioz was working on his "La damnation de Faust" and already had an Eastern European tour on the books for the work. His friends and critics suggested that he add a march with a Hungarian theme to please the Hungarian audiences. He did and it was a big success. The melody is Hungarian and has been used by other Hungarian composers such as Franz Liszt. It is a true Hungarian March within a large work by a French composer.

  • hungarian march...tempo in cd version is much more slow, but this tempo is really brillant

  • @HMW For us Hungarians it is only known as Rakoczi March and this is how you can find it uploaded here.

  • rackozi march

  • what is the name of this PARTICULAR piece? thanks
