This is a simple M&M sorting machine we built for NIweek 2010. The whole demo is commanded by a cRIO and it uses MoviMED's AF-150x Analog framegrabber C-series module for compact RIO (now in color).
The camera takes a picture, it is sent from the FPGA to the RT processor where it is recognized. The outcome is both sent to the touchpanel PC that displays stats and down to the FPGA. The FPGA tracks the candy on the conveyor and blows the part in to the appropriate box.
I would love to have one of these, but I'd use it for sorting Skittles since a different color is a different flavor with those. (I mean seriously who just grabs a handful of skittles and eats them? GROSS!)
