Showing a new technology that enables robust optical connectivity for harsh environments. Normally, optical interconnects are "physical contact" type and require very clean environments to enable/prepare the tips for excellent optical connectivity. Think dust covers. This alternative technology uses free space optics, coated lenses, and an expanded beam lens to facilitate a very forgiving cleanup, even if the optical "end" is trashed in a bucket of mud.
