The Choral Project performs "Bells of Rhymney" by Pete Seeger, arr. Jimmy Joyce, from the Light out of Shadow concert performance June 5th, 2010, at Mission Santa Clara de Asis, Santa Clara CA.
This version is I'm sure the way Idris Davies who wrote this poem would have liked to hear. I'm in the Rhymney Silurian male Choir and have been singing this song for 24 years and the choir are currently learning this. I will pass this on to the choristers so they can enjoy you singing too. We are currently celebrating our 60th anniversary and we'll be singing this song for the 1st time in April/May12 when our Church St David's which is the original Bells of Rhymney is re-opening after rework.
The words were writen by a Welsh miner called Idris Davies after the failure of the 1926 strike to improve the terrible conditions and the poor pay of the South Wales miners. I am Welsh and most of my ancestors worked in coal mines. This is the best version of the song that I have heared and particularly because the pronunciation of Rhymney is correct as Rhumney.
