  • God Bless Nell Carter....They just don't make 'em like that anymore.

  • Gawd! Why did she have to die?! Good comedians should never have to die, they should live on forever making other people die from laughter!

  • I always loved this theme song one of my favorites, I will always miss the dad and Nell forever, there's no show like this one:)

  • RIP Nell Carter and Dolph Sweet

  • I miss the 80's :(

  • I watched it because of her/ it was a good show and I loved the fact that she sang the theme song. She is missed and like John Candy left us way too soon. R.I.P., Nell!!!

  • Will someone please tell me what Nell says at 4:07-4:10 - i really have no idea...

  • I love Julie's necklace!

  • I love Nell Carter. She was full of surprises to the end.

  • @coopwinters Sweet is probably best remembered for his role as cantankerous police chief and father Carl Kanisky, who was constantly at odds with housekeeper Nell Carter on the sitcom Gimme a Break!, a role he played from 1981 until his death. Sweet was diagnosed with cancer during the series' fourth season, but continued to work. Dolph Sweet died on May 8, 1985; his final appearance on Gimme a Break! aired 3 days later, coincidentally, on the day of his funeral.

  • i love this show & the theme bay bee

  • @ProcrastinatingGuy

And she wasn't even a comedian! Her first love was musical acting, and she won Tony a award for her Broadway performance. But BECAUSE she was so talented, she was able to perform beautifully in a comedic role! I really miss her.
