Practice render w USS Constellation imported from Google 3D warehouse/sketchup and converted to Iclone 5 via 3D Exchange, rendered (WMA) with further processing in Vegas pro 11 (added lens-flare, re-rendered for YouTube). Regarding Iclone 5, which was my choice for creating pre-visualization clips, I'm keeping my eyes on the Aliasing problem (even noticeable in HD) but made progress by rendering out 3000 x 1688 High res images (about 16MB each) and even uprez'ed (BCC7) to 4K video in Vegas pro 11 (this practice clip however was rendered/re-rendered in HD only :o)
In a future project I shall look into replacing the curled up sails with highly realistic square ones using a technique I thought of today i.e.the flag is using physics cloth...
To me, everything is a chapter by itself, I mean Scripting, music, sound/fx, modeling, animation, particle effects, rendering etc, etc, and how I'm working towards seamlessly mixing Iclone renderings with still pictures and live, high quality video, some using chroma keying (BCC7 or 8). This is fun but can be challenging at times and is time consuming, then again quality comes first. Hopefully when (if :o) all issues are solved, the results will be very convincing (not possible by using Iclone alone however).

At the end of the day, if I didn't have 3 decades of photo and PC experience, I would never dream of studying "20'th century" media making this hard, fortunately I got some music/sound skills along the way from younger years which is, oh at least of 50% importance in film making. Too much for one guy? Nah, but it is hard on our budget... Besides, Elk Valley Times wrote about me being multi-talented here, http://borsingphoto.com/theme/images/ElkRiverTimesCoverage.jpg , so it must be true;o)

  • The flag is a physics prop though but to rig this short scene properly you need to add a several hours of work, but it can be done.

  • First the sky is awful and is much better of as a "slow mo" video clip on a curved display prop, then there's the island, same thing there, if not a video then by importing a Photoshop image (layered) to give it some dimension. The water can be given real waves by using physics cloth, displaying high res video of water/ waves, covering some animated smooth shaped profiles.

  • Last but not least rig the mast with physics cloth sail canvas, create a crew and put e'm to work, Arrgh ;o) Give the scen some proper background sounds, voice narration and several Cameras to switch between, then render the scene out as 3K, separate images (16MB each) Import into Vegas pro and uprez/render the scene to 4K, a better scene than that would be much harder to create, Arrgh ;o)

  • The boat floating animation is so nicely done. Did you use iClone5 Soft body physics?

  • No just a crude animation using timeline / rotate tool.

  • It´s a beauty :-)

  • Yes it's got no bottom though, but hey it's free on Google warehouse :o)
