Can i just add the Commonwealths roots go back to when all the leaders of the different regions met in the Imperial Conferences while the Empire was still alive, it is not for keeping them under the Crown.
They are diverse but similar regions across the globe and it was reasonable to continue that dialogue after the BE.
All members choose whether to be in it or not, very few excolonies do not (funny considering how EVIL the BE was?!) Some members werent even in the BE.

France and Germany are not coming out FAR stronger, France is about level with the UK in growth, however Frances netdebt is almost 10% higher, the biggest reason the UK isnt currently at risk of downgrading is because we can and are QE, because we have our own currency. Thus Frances current repayments are almost double Britains at 100billion and 53billion respectively. Theres that word again "stable" even though its proving itself less so that standard keynesian models.

The "Crown" has one power, and that is for the elected official in Commonwealth countries to remove the leader should he be required such as the Gough Whitlam constitutional crisis. The Monarchy is a figurehead and a weak check balance to parliament.
They serve the Crown in no way. No tax, just a Head of State - if they want.

US independance was historically an illegal war started by tea smugglers. Very few countries fought the UK for independance because the UK learnt after the US fiasco to involve locals in their rule, plans for Indian independance were on the table before WW1 even started. Australia and Canada both achieved it peacefully.
It was not for the Crown to retain power, the Crown lost power starting in 1215 and finally in 1688 Bill of Rights, putting parliament above the Crown.

@animesis Commonwealth was created because the UK didnt want to loose all their colonies, so they game them Commonwealth status, meaning they still serve the crown, but have independence. US was the first country to gain democracy after they fought for it, and many countries soon followed. Germany and France are coming out of the recession FAR stronger then UK. UK is no were near as stable and any of the two.
BTW im Ukrainian by birth, and currently live in Canada.

Its too big, even Americans see themselfs for their regions not just the US and unless we turn into another US (seriously?!) we would lose our unique beautiful countries.
For its 3 centuries of mashing cultures together, how much true cultural value has the US given the world compare to the countries of Europe. A grasshopper can kill an ant, 100 ants can kill a grasshopper. Id rather be a group of ants than another grasshopper.

You know how the EU could fix itself, return to its original concept, a trade Union, remove the political ties and Euro. They wanted it to be more than it was, to somehow symbolically be another axis of superpower, forgetting the whole time, we arnt in the Imperialist years anymore, we are in the trade years and that is what makes a superpower and for that Europe owned and we shouldnt have worried.

Out of the top twenty countries for Quality of life 15 are European, the US ranks at 13th, all others bar one above the US are European.

Well said apart from one major drawback, the EU is modelled on "stability" to escape the ups and downs of capitalism and here it is feeling it worse than the most capitalist nations.

France is soon to lose its triple A rating, Germany is on watch as negative whilst the UK is stable, even the professionals are classing the EU as failing.
