When Chavez was briefly ousted from power in 2002, many suspected America was involved. Now, a lawyer has obtained incriminating CIA documents proving it was.

A top secret CIA brief, written five days before the coup, proves the most incriminating. "It says the coup will take place in the first weeks of April, violence will be provoked in an opposition rally and the President will be taken prisoner", states lawyer, Eva Golinger. "This is what happened." Golinger has spent the last three years investigating the coup, tracing the money trail from Washington to key organisations involved. "It wasn't just that they were giving them money. They quadrupled the funding from 2001 to 2002." Other declassified documents show the US Embassy praising the coup leader as "the right man at the right time for Venezuela". Remarkably, although the coup failed, Washington has stepped up its funding for the opposition. As Golinger states: "It's as if they said 'We didn't give you guys enough. We've got to give you more because you failed.'" But ironically, America's support for the opposition seems to have only strengthened Chavez's hold on power.

  • Eva Gollinger is a excellent woman. And beautiful one too!

  • Right on Raven. Colombia and Egypt are the "good guys" and you almost never hear a bad word about them in the US press, but just research their human rights record, and compare THAT to the human rights in Venezuela or even Cuba and you'll realise human rights is nothing to do with who America picks as friends or enemies.

  • 04:44 people were killed by 'snipers' who have never been identified' ...same thing right now 'unidentified snipers' in Syria 2011

  • Eva Golinger is true patriot and says it how it is.......

  • @axljuan How do you know there was no foreign country behind Chavez's coup d'etat.? Who told you that the US was behind the Coup given to Chavez ?

  • @themailman43 To continue my previous statement: That plus the fact he took full responsibility for it later he got caught --whereas opposition party hasn't , they even there was no coup-- in front of the cameras and thousands Venezuelans. What he did back then won the heart of thousands of Venezuelans and was under Venezuelans pressure that he was released from prison and then , well you know the story, he became president.. whether hes a good president or not is another topic

  • @themailman43 Yeah but at least it was a group of Venezuelan, led by a Venezuelan guy and with no foreign country involved in his decision and actions to overthrown the democratically elected president. Believe it or not Chavez's Coup d'etat is one of the mayor reason he is in power nowadays, I mean although the Coup d'etat was seen by people as unconstitutional and condemned it, they also saw it as something that had to be done...

  • What we never hear is about Hugo Chavez's own Coup d'etat in 1992 in which he was the leader of a military group tyring to overthrow Venezuela's democratically elected government of Carlos Andres Perez.

  • @marcopg Vos necesita ayuda mental grave.
