This video highlights how GK is addressing the poverty and slum-dwelling issues in the Philippines; how everyone from all sectors of society are pitching in, including corporations and the international community.

The video was shown at the 2006 Ramon Magsaysay Awards Foundation (RMAF) where GK and its then executive director, Tony Meloto were separately presented the award for community leadership. GK was the first organization to receive the award in the foundation's (RMAF) 49 yr. history. It was also the first time for an organization and it's executive director to receive the award separately.

  • To build houses for the less fortunate people they can call home gives them hope. But to show them a way to sustain their livelihood gives them dignity. This movement is truly inspirational because it makes the less fortunate people stop depending on the "hand-outs" from the government and charity from well-off people. In short, it breaks the cycle of poverty.

  • @TheRockRoyalty Thank you for taking the time and your kind comment. The gift of presence is a powerful thing.

  • Punishing people for life experiences really is not the answer. I Love the Philippines, I have been there so this is not an attack on the country. I plan to retire there someday. What needs to happen is the Old Ways need to change. It is against the law to use birth control in the Philippines, this needs to change. The Filipino people need access to family planning and education. People are going to procreate, that is human nature. They need access to birth control devices.

  • @KuyaBillRomjue Thanks for taking the time to comment. The issue goes beyond birth control devices or making it a law. Transformation starts with the mindset at all levels of society. It is amazing what "truly caring" for others can bring about.

  • i wish it will become a law in the philippines that giving birth to children without providing for their basic needs should be punishable by law!giving birth should be a crime to those parents who cannot uphold their childrens' right for a decent life!pas the rh bill!gawad kalinga mabuhay po kayo!sana tumama ako ng lotto pra makapagpatayo din ako ng bahay pra sa mga kababayan naten=)

  • @ThePaulo73 Thanks for your comment. Maybe you should ask the Chinese from China. Poverty is not a lack of resources but a lack of caring and sharing. It's easiest to point fingers. Be part of the solution. Blaming is not the answer.
