From Walter Cronkite's summer science series "Universe" from 1982. The "Tron" effects team films Cronkite in 65mm B&W and uses the same technique to insert him into the animated world as was used on the movie. How many tens of thousands of dollars did it cost them to shoot and animate a minute of finished film like this?
Recorded via and archived in Betamax® format. Sorry about the poor quality which stems from the co-channel interference on the broadcast reception at the time of the recording.

Wow! I think Cronkite just described Roland Emmerich's '2012.'

Universe was not a newscast so there was no masquerade involved. It was a prime time infotainment show not unlike what one might find on Discovery or National Geographic nowadays.

The memory of Cronkite reluctantly capering around in a glow suit as part of a Tron promo, (masquerading as a newscast,) kind of awakened in me when I saw Castor twirling his cane in the sequel. I'm so glad to revisit this moment!

This is Awesome, to bad the quality is so poor. I hope a high quality version of this makes it on to the special features on the Blue Ray Tron DVD.

I doubt there was anything computer generated in the Cronkite demo footage.

Wow, Walter Cronkite in the Tron Universe, that's a first for a news caster! Awesome, now he's Immortalized digitally.
