ggzela, Yes, I believe I remember Carmela Vasquez as well. So many fine performers passed through the San Diego/Los Angeles flamenco scene in those years, thanks for prodding my memory. Some others that come to mind are Curro Amaya and Julio de los Reyes.

Miguel Herrero. I had the honor of meeting him. My father was his guitarist from Cuba and many years later. For the comment below, he was married to Carmela Vasquez and then years later and if I am not mistaken he married his new wife. Both amazing ladies and I had the honor of meeting them both. Unfortunately, life has its end. I am sure that both are currently having a tremendous party up in heaven where they belong.

For several years in the early 1960s, Sr. Herrero, Leonor Amaya, the Cuban bailaor Juan Martin and guitarist Juan Perin appeared at various Tijuana, Mexico night clubs and restaurants. I spent many long nights trying to absorb the magic of flamenco guitar and cante. I found these artists, gracious and appreciative of my interest and tolerant of the ignorance of a young American. I could never imagine that many years later I would find myself rediscovering these wonderful artists via YouTube.

Gracias Alytavarelita, por la información. Yo llegué a ver a Herrero en Cuba, en el Teatro America, cuando fue con la compañía española CABALGATA. ¡ Que tremendo espectáculo ! Despues lo vi en Miami y a su hijo tambien. Pero Miguel era único recitando a Rafael de León.

el que escribio los poemas es rafael de leon un poeta sevillano que ha sido el mas grande, tambien le escribio a la grande rocio jurado.
