yes yes,the order of service was correct!,and despite the fact you rested the bottle on the glass while serving, I still like your philosophy,why so little importance to the cork?its the number one check point to see if the bottle has been stored properly,I think is not only "if you can",but "you should" present the cork, unless of course you have a plastic one or screw cap bottle, in any case, you should acknowledge this,I have seen many unhappy screw-cap-bottle-guests, they think is cheap...

The Ritz Carleton in London was busted a few years ago for double serving wine, ie; refilling bottles with leftovers from other customers. This is why you ALWAYS open the bottle at the table, so the customer is assured that the wine is what he ordered.

if the entire table does not acknowledge you,you spill some on the table.Then if they are not appreciative of your serving humor,you bust the mans head with the label and "dry" hump his women.
