I decided to test my Electric Motor to see if it would spin the wheels of the car once I had it all together. I made a bus bar out of copper tubing and then drilled holes in it and bolted it on. Next I attached my jumper battery to the correct terminals on the engine and put the car in 2nd gear. To my surprise.....the wheels went in the right direction!!! Yeah!!!

  • is that a TIburon?

  • @Kreigu Yes a 2003 Tiburon.

  • What is the RPM, HP, Torque and RMS Voltage amprage draw for that motor and where can I get one?

I thought about using a 30,000+RPM electric motor and fabricating a 10 to 1 gearbox to downspin the motor to around 3,000 RPM's which is where a normal auto gas engine usually opperates. I figure (- mechanical lag) that if I used say a 20HP motor at full speed, I should get around 170 to 200bhp from the unit. Also a regenerative braking system and coast feedback system could be of some use.

  • @robbcochran Wow....lots of questions Robb. Here goes since it is late and I just got back to my hotel room from the POWER OF DC EV event and racing tomorrow and Sunday. Yeah!!! On to your questions:

    1) I can sell you an Electric Motor that will work fine for your needs. 9inch DC, 11 inch DC or 13 inch DC.

    2) You will need an AC motor and inverter in order to get Regen. What kind of car are you going to use this in? Please advise. Running out of characters. Send me a private message.

  • yeah when your done, perhaps you can help me in mine? 03 toyota tacoma,, willing to pay you..,..let me know...

  • SilverPizza,

Have you started your EV project yet? Do you have any parts? Have you taken the ICE out? Please advise. We maybe able to help you.

  • this is soo cool... carssss

  • OK, I get it... So are there any GOOD supppliers of DC motors (personal experiance) that you know of? I'd like to find one with high torque and moderate HP if I'm going to use around 3000 - 4000 direct RPM (from the motor...)

  • @robbcochran Sorry mate, a 20hp motor will only put out 20hp no matter how its geared. In fact, your transmission will actually sap some power from the motor (friction/inertia losses) and your actual power measured at the wheel(s) will always be something LESS than 20hp. Its more effecient to use motors that wont require a transmission. A PAIR of 20hp motors should be able to power a lightweight vehicle; say 1800lbs or less.

  • Contact me if you need help (not that it looks like it.) I know I do, I have the skills and knowledge, but no tools or equipment (yet). Send me some specs if you would
