@jarbear027 dude blue devils books are not at all musical. he just writes stuff that "looks" cool and sounds "cool". but even then its not that cool. PR is infact the the most musical percussion section in drum corps. period. if you listen to the full corps play the show, you'll hear that the percussion parts are written perfectly to accompany the brass ensemble. and that what musicality in drum corps is.
Most people I know (especially non-drummers) would be quick to point out that Blue Devils books are harder because they "look" harder. There are more visual tricks, more "drummer-faces", and definitely more "eye-candy" licks, such as split tricks throught snare drummers, or very (VERY) fast rolls, something not easy. I guess it's a difficult question to answer; What's more difficult? Fast notes or dynamic mixtures of rudiments. I guess when it comes down to it, the best SOUND wins, right?
@jarbear027 like I said... go play this book and tell me it's easy. It's not. I don't want to hear about BD's book, it had it's own challenges and shortcomings, but that's not what we are talking about. PR's book is always hard, especially musically and just flat out sound better.
@timartin91 listen to this then go listen to BD's book. there is no comparison devs is harder BD always handsdown plays harder shit, every year. its just a matter if BD can play their harder book just as clean as other corps can play their easier book, if so its a wrap. that just didnt happen this year. easier book is always easier to clean, which is why phantom plays it safe. dont get me wrong i like phantom and i enjoyed watching em win drums in 06, but they werent as clean this year as in 06.
@jarbear027 please play their book and then tell me that they are easy notes. They are, in fact, not easy. The judges don't give the drum title to a line who plays easy notes.
yup. they are clean as fuck, but the books pretty damn easy. they better be the cleanest line with that easy of a book. great SQ, good job. but id just like to see them play some beefier shit. hey yamahadrummer, have a nice day.
