This is the band WHaT performing "You Can't Hurt Me No More" aa JJ's Blues in Santa Clara. WHaT is John Wedemeyer (guitar), Randy Hayes (drums) and Endre Tarczy (bass). A great rock and blues band that plays once in a blue moon. See them if you have the chance.

  • John is God

  • No man John feels it so much, and his phrasing, pausing amd sense of melody is unmatched in any guitar player, but you do have to have a solid rhythm section in order to sail

  • I heard traces of Bobby Parker early on in the solo, but the closest comparison is Chris Cain. Can anyone answer a question for me - I heard a really fast version of this one on a documentary film featruing Dr. John and a brilliant female vocalist/pianist called Lady Peaches (I think). I thought the guy that did this song was called Willie Murphy but can't find anything around. I taped the film, but someone borrowed it and never gave it back. I'd love to get a proper copy! Anyone know the film?

  • @janderson2000 In reality he's not. The truth is no man can be, no man ever was, and that's no lie my friend.

  • I know every music fan knows a "local guy" that is as good as (insert famous guitarist here) and that may be true. All I can say as a man who grew up in the Bay Area and has seen John many many times, John truly does have it all. His phrasing and feel are utterly phenomenal, his tone is amazing, the way he gets "inside the song" and brings it to a new level is peerless. But above all that, his passion for music is 1000% real. He's like Randy Rhoads. Not a "guitarist", but a complete Musician.

  • I saw JW play with WHAT and several other bands at JJ's back when he was barely old enough to go into a bar. He's a great technician on the guitar but I was left with the impression that he empties his bag of tricks on every solo...somewhat over kill IMHO. I wish he'd leave a note out here & there for the sake of expression instead of always trying to wow you with virtuosity.

  • I had the pleasure of becoming friends with John while playing around Vegas. He'd jam out at the Sandollar with Drew Zingg, a real treat - world class on your doorstep. I'm so tired of hearing guitarists talk about speed vs feel, as a soloist, SELF EXPRESSION is what it's all about. Melody, personality (feel), tone, dynamics (volume or speed) - all valid and all one in the same, they need to exist together. John possesses all of these attributes which is why he stands out in a crowd.

  • @Panos: This song was originally written by Nick Gravenites.

  • guys please tell me something cause i cant understand who has written this song.is it a what song or someone else wrote it and played it for the first time?

  • All I can say (again) is what a phenomenal and gifted musician John is! I was lucky enough to have lived in the Bay Area my whole life up til 2004, and I can't tell you how many times I got goosebumps from seeing John play at JJ's and other venues all thru the 90's til I moved. He is absolutely on my top 10 guitarists of all time and to be fair, Andre and Randy are also great musicians. There's no justice that people like them can't get a record deal, but Lady CaCa is scary talented, right?

  • @SoleiCapri Can't disagree with that one! I've only been a friend/fan of JW and company since about 1991 and I've maintained all along that it's tragic that they haven't been singed by a big name label. The music industry has suffered since the introduction of the "music Video" I see SOOOOOO many no talent, one chord wonders hitting it big only on their "cute video's" and some promoter. The rock industry NEEDS guys like John, Endre' , & Randy. A Great power trio of truly special guys!

  • I was watching John play with AJ & the Shapes back in 1987 when they had a weekly gig at Gilbert Zapps in Campbell CA. I still have their LP record signed by all the band members. John was 20 years old and a phenom player back then. No wonder Las Vegas scooped him up. John is one of the best Blues guitarist EVER.
