Went out first thing this morning to catch the W044 weed spraying train with the SD40'S started out in St. Pete. 13th Avenue North. and went all the way to Clearwater... Didn't catch it or even see it parked ANYWHERE even where the power is parked up in Clearwater??? So when I was at 13th Avenue I spotted the Track Inspector just South of 13th. He told me about the plans for up at Cross Bayou/Largo... additional "upgrades" to the A.R.E. Line. So I then went up to the Ulmerton Road area, which there is a gravel facility back in there and saw the "New Ties" and rail for the area. Maybe tomorrow I'll catch the "weed sprayer"??? I'd love to see the 6 axle unit down here on the Clearwater Sub. The milepost location where the spur to the gravel facility is ARE 886.4 *Note* looking for a place to park your car? Park at one of the Industries and ask them- don't park on the right-of-way or Lake Ave. Where I parked my car - I asked the supervisor and she said sure...* The station thats in the film was shot at Park Blvd. Pinellas Park. I liked the old ACL whistle post! This is not the actual station- also the end shot was filmed at the "Duvall Spur" according to older Seaboard Coast Line Timetables and information on Flickr. Thanks~

  • what did you do to the tracks to make them come out?

  • As for CSXBOY's desire to see more trains on the Clearwater sub, I would hold any breath. The SP Times is the only real customer left on the line south of Conrad Yelvington, so its pretty obvious to me that CSX is doing this work to inflate its sale price to the state for TBARTA commuter use. We all know what the newspaper industry is doing so the prospect for anything other than decreasing freight traffic over time is unrealistic.

  • The rock facility you are talking about is the Conrad Yelvington distribution yard northeast of the intersection of Ulmerton Road and Starkey Road, behind Great Bay Distributors. They have their own SW1500 engine there as well. It is pretty easy to find by driving one block north on Starkey and turning left.
