This solitary wasp tentatively approaches the nest chamber of a leafcutter bee, senses the occupant, and backs off. It can actually fly backwards really well! Probably one of the ruby-tailed wasps (Chrysididae).

  • Not a Chrysidid, they are always metallic in green, blues or reds, and much more heavy built. This a Sapyga sp. wasp, although there is a couple of similar species, and I cant say I know the group, especially not on the british iles ;)
