  • This CME is a C3 class which is very small and has very few negative effects on Earth. The one in 1989 was considerably bigger and knocked out the power grid in Quebec. The one in 1921 was six times larger than the 1989 event and the biggest of all, in recorded history, was the 1859 one which was 50% bigger than the 1921 CME.The 1859 event caused telegraph operators to be burnt and their papers catch on fire and there were thousands of grass fires started by sparks flying off the telegraph wires.
