  • Why does it rip when I try to make the first petals?

  • @greenylimew Try using a paper napkin or some relatively soft paper - maybe that will help. There is quite some paper tension, so stiffer paper can easily rip.

  • its cool, i keep ripping it when i invert the folds to form the petals though ... any idea why? i used proper origami paper, maybe i folded it too tight in the first place?

  • It does have to do with your paper choice somewhat, but I think you can do a lot with applying the pressure in the exact right place and supporting the paper in the places where it tends to rip. If the paper is too thick, it will be almost impossible not to rip it (unless you dampen it, maybe). The same holds for too stiff paper (which will usually be heavier, too). You can also try folding it from paper or cloth napkins.

  • I keep ripping the petals off. Any way to keep that from happening, other than using less force? I think it's the paper I'm using, I'm using standard printer paper.

  • You could try using a large square. It should work with office paper, although origami paper should rip less easily. It might be about adding pressure on the right points.

  • @greenylimew

push on the little fold you make at 4:08 at the same time as trying to pull the first petals. And do it slowly.

  • I dont know why people complain about how their paper rips etc.

I did it from COPY PAPER on my first try and it turned out perfectly well.I even showed a guy over my friends webcam how to make it :)

  • yay~ i did it with very thick an small paper on my FIRST try

  • @greenylimew you can try unfold the last tick part, reverse fold, and then just adjust the tick fold.(thats how i did )

  • i like the womans vioce its nice and calming
