A full break, from Power Rangers Turbo, from WTXF and Fox Kids in September 1997. The station was known as "Fox Philadelphia" at this point, and this was taped right after they modified their logo and news graphics - so in some of these the logo looks slightly different. This one's so packed with classic spots that I decided to just upload the entire break:

0:00 - Fox Kids Bumpers. I think I have that Goosebumps rap permanently tattooed into my brain.

0:10 - Promo for Simpsons, episode 3F02, "Bart Sells His Soul". Rightly, the promo makers decide to focus on the funny part of the episode, i.e., Uncle Moe's Family Feedbag. Great episode, but watching the Simpsons in syndication is akin to reading "War and Peace" with half the pages ripped out.

0:30 - A promo for the Fox Ten O'Clock News, with Rich Noonan and Jill Chernekoff, both no longer at the station. Part of the updated graphics and music package.

0:40 - Absolutely genius promo for the 11pm Simpsons airing which followed the news. To describe it more would be pointless, so just watch it... and remember that any similarity in on-air personalities is strictly coincidental.

1:10 - kids ads spots for Fruit Roll-Ups, Midas Project Safe Baby, Transformers/Beast Wars, Connect Four.

2:40 - A general WTXF news spot - "information. communication." The full version's elsewhere on YouTube, but this 30 second promo is interesting because only four personalities are at the station as of this writing, all reporters - Dave Schratweiser, Joyce Evans, Bruce Gordon, and Steve Keeley.

3:11 - And now, back to Fox Kids...

  • I'm still trying to find out the name of the guy who was doing the WTXF voiceovers at the time. I think he joined the station in 1990, he was previously heard on TBS Superstation. He still does voiceovers today on WUAB in Cleveland.

  • The voiceover's name is John Young, and he did indeed do work for the Superstation.

29 used him until 1998, when they switched to Scott Chapin.

  • damn, now i remember just how big a deal goosebumps was back in the day. it even had its own fruit roll-ups!

  • Yeah - it's more or less forgotten now, but before Harry Potter, Goosebumps and its ilk were a *very* big deal. It was an important part of the Fox Kids lineup to the point that it got multiple slots - under different names - on Saturday mornings.

Personally, I thought "Are You Afraid of the Dark" was *far* better than the Goosebumps adaptations.

  • Goosebumps and Beast Wars, Oh how I've missed you, especially you Beast Wars!!!

  • Man I miss being a kid in the 90s. I remember this ad because I'm from Philadelphia myself.

  • Wow I remember that fruit roll ups commercial! I was only 4 then, but I remember it lol.

  • @Hal20062b I remember in 2002 they changed FOX Kids into Foxbox and ABC Family & Toon Disney (before Jetix started) started airing Power Rangers and Digimon (my favorite show).

  • @cutemimi25 My bad.

  • @Hal20062b 2001?

    I thought it was 2002.

  • @cenerchaos No, It died around 2001.

  • I remember WNYW airing The Simpsons weeknights at 7 & 11, and WTXF airing it weeknights at 6:30 & 11.
