On July 26th-28th, 100 dedicated volunteers gathered in St. Luke's Episcopal Church at 4:30 a.m. They divided into teams, and took to the streets of downtown Long Beach to administer a six-page survey to people experiencing homelessness in the community. This was a follow-up to the survey conducted in 2009. So far, more than 20% of homeless people surveyed in 2009 have been placed in permanent homes.
Volunteers interviewed and photographed more than 300 people in need. People who agreed to be surveyed received toothbrushes and gift cards to local grocery stores.
